Safety Policy

PlaySpace has always taken the safety of our customers (and staff) extremely seriously - it’s our number one priority - and our membership of the PPA (Play Providers Association - the industry association for leading indoor play providers that demands the highest standards from all of its members) demonstrates this.

As a PPA member - and the only one in Bristol - we adhere to a swathe of best practices including the requirement for a detailed, independent annual inspection of our play equipment - something many other play centres do not undertake.  (The indoor play industry is unregulated so play centres are not obliged to follow any specific safety routine other than the standard Food Hygiene regulations.)

However, following an incident in March 2011 that made us realise that ‘best practice’ can always be improved upon further, we have taken a number of additional steps to make PlaySpace even safer than before. In fact we are confident that PlaySpace is now one of the safest indoor play centres in the country.

Safety improvements and developments include:

  • An additional independent full inspection of play equipment by The Play Inspection Company (
  • Routine maintenance and certain alterations to the play facilities have been carried out. These include the addition of double safety netting under the Up & Over Wall and the Scramble Net.
  • We have re-written our equipment safety checklists and increased the level of detail covered on a daily, weekly and monthly basis, going significantly beyond the rigour recommended by the equipment manufacturer.  More staff are also now trained to carry out these detailed checks.
  • An independent Heath & Safety Audit was commissioned by us to look at all other (non-play equipment) aspects of PlaySpace. This was done by SureTeam Ltd, who again found nothing of concern but did make recommendations, all of which are being implemented.
  • We received 5 Stars from the EHO following an unannounced inspection of our Kitchen and food preparation processes.
  • New entry gates, making the reception area even more secure.

To summarise, we have voluntarily made further improvements to equipment, working processes and staff training, all endorsed by two different independent inspectors and many of them going beyond the steps ‘required’ by legislation.  Our customers can be confident that, whilst no play area involving children will ever be totally ‘risk free’, PlaySpace is as safe and well-maintained as it can possibly be.

PLEASE NOTE: For safety reasons, at very busy times we can only permit entry when a table is available and clean. It is company policy for customers to be given a table upon entry. If you are joining friends who are already inside, please bear in mind that you can only “jump” the queue if those ahead of you are happy for you to do so. Please do not expect members of staff to ask for you. At these busy times, play sessions are limited to 2 hours 30 minutes, so there will be a constant turnover of tables from 12.30pm onwards.
